Tourism, Together: New District Aims to Boost Local Visits in West Sacramento

We are proud to announce the successful formation of the West Sacramento Tourism Marketing District (WSTMD), a significant step toward positioning the city as a premier destination for travelers, event planners, and meeting professionals.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Meaghan Stiles, Economic Development Manager at the City of West Sacramento, for her exceptional leadership in bringing this district to life, and to all the lodging properties that participated in this foundational effort. Their vision, dedication, and collaboration were instrumental in making this initiative happen.

With a 2% assessment on gross short-term room rental revenue, the WSTMD will generate approximately $482,000 annually in its first year. This funding will power a comprehensive five-year sales, marketing, and destination development program that benefits the assessed lodging businesses and drives sustainable economic growth.

“The formation of the West Sacramento Tourism Marketing District represents an important investment in the city’s long-term visitor economy. Through a coordinated approach to marketing, sales, and destination development, the WSTMD will strengthen West Sacramento’s competitiveness for visitors, meetings, and events while supporting local lodging businesses and contributing to broader economic growth. The City appreciates the collaboration of its lodging partners in advancing this shared vision for West Sacramento,” said Meaghan Stiles, Economic Development Manager of City of West Sacramento.

The WSTMD’s initiatives will center around elevating West Sacramento’s presence in the travel marketplace, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Key program elements include:
• Regional and national marketing to drive tourism and events
• Public relations to raise the city’s profile
• Sales efforts targeting meetings and group travel
• Partnerships with state and local tourism organizations
• Attendance at trade shows and sales missions
• Development of visitor materials and promotional tools
• Research to identify and grow new markets
• Maintenance of digital assets like websites and social media
• Beautification and safety programs to improve the visitor experience

By uniting the city’s lodging sector under a common vision, the WSTMD will enhance West Sacramento’s competitive edge, drive increased demand for overnight stays, and elevate the destination’s reputation. This initiative not only supports local lodging businesses but also stimulates the broader economy by attracting new visitors, events, and investment to the community. Civitas is honored to support the formation of the WSTMD and looks forward to witnessing its success in creating a vibrant, visitor-friendly future for West Sacramento.
