Boulder, CO Launches Influential Lodging Business Assessment Area

We are thrilled to celebrate with Visit Boulder, the Convention and Visitors Bureau on the formation of the Boulder Lodging Business Assessment Area (LBAA), a groundbreaking initiative that will provide sustainable funding to support economic growth in Boulder, Colorado. With a 2% assessment on gross short-term room rental revenue, this innovative funding model is projected to raise $2.4 million annually, ensuring Boulder remains an appealing destination for visitors while supporting local lodging businesses and the hospitality industry.

These vital funds will empower the city to:

  • Provide lodging businesses with marketing support to address crucial need periods and markets.
  • Accommodate transportation solutions to connect guests at area hotels with Boulder’s points of interest, commercial districts and events.
  • Create unique experiences to attract groups, retreats and conferences to meet in Boulder, and create meaningful ways for visitors to engage with the Boulder community.
  • Give assessed lodging businesses more resources to establish and promote sustainability initiatives.

The LBAA represents a substantial move in strengthening Boulder’s competitive edge in tourism. By investing in strategic initiatives, the city will further elevate its reputation as a special destination known for its outdoor recreation, thriving arts scene and welcoming hospitality.

“The formation of the LBAA marks a transformational moment for our hospitality community and reflects the remarkable collaboration between Boulder’s lodging businesses and city leadership,” says Charlene Hoffman, CEO of Visit Boulder. “We’re excited to see the positive impact this initiative will bring —not just to our hotels, but also to the local restaurants, retailers, and partner businesses that make Boulder such a vibrant place to live, work and visit.”

The establishment of the Boulder LBAA marks a pivotal moment for the city’s hospitality sector. We commend the collective efforts of Visit Boulder and Boulder’s lodging businesses and stakeholders who made this achievement possible. Their dedication to championing economic vitality provides a strong foundation for the future of Boulder’s business community, visitor experience and quality of life.

Congratulations again to Visit Boulder and its leadership, Charlene Hoffman, on this significant win for local lodging businesses. We look forward to seeing the incredible impact of this funding and the exciting advancements it will bring to the Boulder community!
