In 2017, Civitas joined forces with Mary Kay Wydra,  President and CEO of the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau to blaze a trail for tourism in Massachusetts. The goal: to pass State Tourism Destination Marketing District Legislation to enable Massachusetts to form TDMDs.

In 2019, Martha Sheridan joined the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and brought the legislative initiative to the top of the industry’s priority list.  Martha and Mary Kay, along with their respective boards,  spearheaded the effort which passed the Massachusetts Legislature and was signed into law by Governor Charlie Baker in January of this year.

Martha Sheridan says, “This will be a game changer for the tourism and hospitality industry in Massachusetts. Our sector  has been devastated by the Covid-19 crisis and this will enable us to take control of our recovery efforts and bring our workforce back to serving all those that will once again visit the Commonwealth.”

Team Massachusetts stayed the course through uncharted territory with commitment and conviction that truly inspired us. The future is bright in Massachusetts!
