Utah Legislation Update

Congratulations to Visit Salt Lake on their hard-earned TID legislative win! Last week, HB373, Convention & Tourism Assessment Area Act (CTAA Act), sponsored by Rep. Robert Spendlove and Sen. Gregg Buxton, passed.

The CTAA Act allows Salt Lake County tourism businesses to create TIDs for new and supplemental ways of promoting tourism, such as:

  • sponsoring or incentivizing cultural or sports events, festivals, conferences, or conventions;
  • facilitating economic or workforce development for the lodging industry,
  • promote placemaking, visitor management, or destination enhancement.

“Working closely with our hotel industry in Salt Lake County, we are excited the CTAA legislation passed,” said Kaitlin Eskelson, President & CEO. “This tool provides us with an important opportunity to strengthen Salt Lake County’s tourism economy through increased investment into new programming to drive additional demand for increased average daily rates and occupancy in need periods for our destination.”

This trailblazing legislative effort will revolutionize funding for Salt Lake County and the urban hotel industry. Congratulations to them on a step toward sustainable funding for destinations in Utah!
